Part 1: Watch: Why design should include everyone Design should include everyone because it has a big impact on people's lives. I felt upset after watching the video because I realized that when we don't design for everyone, how difficult it can be for some people even to complete day to day chores, tasks. As a designer, what could be done to make experiences better for Sinéad? As a designer, I feel we could make the experience better for Sinéad by providing some additional tools to help her to use the facilities like providing a stepping stool, height adjustable seats/chairs/tables etc. When you think about how it is to experience life the way she does, what is that called? When I think about how it is to experience life the way she does, it can be called as a devastating experience. The Design of Everyday Things According to him, what are the two most important components of good design? the two most important components of good design are discoverability and understanding. In your own words, please explain what affordances are? Affordances are cues using which one can guess what the object is for, what it can do etc. without looking at instructions. In your own words, please explain what signifiers are? Signifiers are audio or visual signs that describe the meaning to the user. What are these items called? forming the goal-> forming the intention-> specifying an action-> executing the action-> perceiving the state of the world-> interpreting the state of the world-> evaluating the outcome These are the seven stages of product design from start to finish. Four stages constitute execution and three stages constitute action One objection to his work states that streamlining a product (i.e. removing obstacles to learning) can result in a lack of consciousness about said product’s true inner-workings, resulting in what? Resulting in a ‘dumbing down’ of user behavior. What man said: “You’ve got to start with the customer experience and work back toward the technology—not the other way around.” and why would that be important? Technology is a means to achieve the end goal of achieving a good customer experience. So, it is important to start with the customer experience and then figure out how to leverage technology to meet the end goal. 2. I was surprised this was my signature color because lot of the facts mentioned in color psychology website matches with my personality. 3. A good complementary color to my signature color would be Orange Pantone 165. 4. A good analogous color to my signature color would be blue Pantone 7462 |
